Penarth Pier Dusk View
Penarth Pier is one of the last remaining Victorian piers in Wales.
Building of the pier, which was privately owned by the Penarth Promenade & Landing Pier Company, commenced in April 1894. The contractors were James & Arthur Mayoh with a local man, Herbert Francis Edwards, being the engineer for the project. It was 658 feet long, this being the maximum length allowed to avoid affecting the deep water channel into Cardiff Docks.
It was opened to the public in February 1895, but the formal opening ceremony did not occur untl 6th April

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the enchanting beauty of Penarth Pier at dusk. As one of the last remaining Victorian piers in Wales, Penarth Pier holds a special place in history and serves as a testament to the architectural marvels of its time. The construction of this magnificent pier began in April 1894 under the ownership of the Penarth Promenade & Landing Pier Company. Led by contractors James & Arthur Mayoh, with engineer Herbert Francis Edwards overseeing the project, it stretched an impressive length of 658 feet. This length was carefully chosen to ensure that it did not interfere with the deep water channel leading into Cardiff Docks. After months of hard work and dedication, Penarth Pier opened its doors to eager visitors in February 1895. However, it wasn't until April 6th that year when a grand opening ceremony marked its official inauguration. In this photograph captured by Clive Rees Photography and available through Fine Art Storehouse, we are transported back to that era where elegance met engineering prowess. The soft hues of dusk paint a serene backdrop against which the pier's intricate details shine through. Whether you have personal ties to Penarth or simply appreciate historical landmarks, this print is sure to evoke feelings of nostalgia and admiration for this enduring symbol from Wales' past.
