EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Chapter House of the Collegiate Church of St Mary in Warwick, Warwickshire. The church, founded in 1123 by Roger de Beaumont, stands as a testament to centuries of history and architectural brilliance. Although only the crypt remains from its original construction, the church underwent extensive rebuilding during the 14th century. The chapter house itself is a remarkable feature that dates back to this period. Its elegant arches and intricate details transport viewers back to medieval times when craftsmanship was revered. This architectural gem has witnessed countless religious ceremonies and gatherings throughout its existence. Over time, St Mary's Church faced adversity with both natural disasters and human conflict. Following the Great Fire of Warwick in 1694, significant repairs were required after the nave and tower were destroyed. Despite these challenges, it still proudly houses several notable tombs including those of Richard de Beauchamp (13th Earl of Warwick), Ambrose Dudley (3rd Earl of Warwick), and Robert Dudley (1st Earl of Leicester). Photographer Peter Thompson skillfully captures this historic location through his lens, allowing us to appreciate its beauty even more deeply. With vibrant colors enhancing every detail within this image, one cannot help but be transported into a world where faith intertwines with artistry. This photograph serves as a visual reminder that heritage sites like St Mary's Church are not just buildings; they are living testaments to our shared pasts that deserve preservation for future generations to cherish and learn from.
