EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of a Long Case Musical Clock, created by renowned artisans from Germany and France in 1786. The clock case was meticulously crafted by David Roentgen, a German master who lived between 1743 and 1807. The gilt-bronze mounts adorning the case were skillfully designed by Francois Remond, a French master who worked from 1747 to 1812. The clock movement itself was expertly executed by Peter Kinzing, a German craftsman born in 1745 and passed away in 1816. Adding to its musical charm, the clock features a remarkable musical mechanism created by Johann Wilhelm Weyl, another talented German artisan active from 1756 to 1813. Made with ash, maple, walnut, and oak veneer embellished with maple and walnut accents, this timepiece is truly a work of art. Its bronze elements complemented with gilt-bronze mounts exude elegance and sophistication. Enamel metal details add an extra touch of refinement while glass panels allow for admiring the intricate inner workings. Standing at an impressive height of approximately six feet three inches (191.8 cm), this Long Case Musical Clock is undoubtedly an imposing presence that commands attention. Its top section measures around three feet two inches (98 cm) tall while the base stands at just over three feet (92.4 cm). This exceptional piece hails from Neuwied in Germany and serves as both a functional timekeeping device and an awe-inspiring decorative object that exemplifies the mastery of its creators.
