EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a magnificent specimen of malachite found in Wheal Husband, Sticker, St Ewe, Cornwall, England. The botryoidal malachite is beautifully coated in limonite, creating a stunning contrast between the vibrant green and the shiny black hues. This particular specimen was meticulously drawn for "Specimens of British Minerals" by Philip Rashleigh back in 1797. The description provided in Rashleigh's work reveals fascinating details about this unique piece. It describes the malachite as mammillary copper ore with rays diverging from centers. The fine green color is nearly covered with black shining iron ore that appears to be decomposing the copper ore. Interestingly, wherever fractures occur on this specimen, the striking green color becomes visible. Originating from Huel (Wheal) Husband in the parish of St Ewe, this remarkable find holds historical significance within Cornwall's mining heritage. Huel Husband later became part of Great Hewas Mine. Andy Tindle has skillfully captured every intricate detail and texture of this mineral masterpiece through his lens. With its vibrant colors and intriguing geological features, this print serves as a testament to both nature's artistry and human fascination with minerals like malachite.
