Vostok 1 Soviet spacecraft
Vostok (Russian осток, translated as "East") was a family of rockets derived from the Soviet R-7 Semyorka ICBM designed for the humanspaceflight programme but later used for other sputnik launches. It was a subset of the R-7 family of rockets.
Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, Hero of the Soviet Union, was a Soviet cosmonaut. On 12 April 1961, he became the first human in outer space and the first man to orbit the Earth. He was launched onboard Vostok-1 at 8:07 Moscov Time and landed at 9:55 Moscov Time after a parachute egress near Saratow close to Smelovka on a field
