Wall Art and Photo Gifts from Mary Evans Picture Library
White Star Line, RMS Titanic, blue and gilt dessert plate
White Star Line, RMS Titanic. Arguably one of the most important White Star Line porcelain items in private hands today. A Spode R4331 OSNC (Oceanic Steam Navigation Company) cobalt blue and gilt dessert plate, a pattern known in some circles as The Millionaires Service for use exclusively on Titanic and Olympic. A handful of cups and saucers are known in the style but this plate is even rarer, bearing the gilt OSNC initials at the centre. It is thought that this is the only OSNC example outside of the Spode Museum and the Titanic wreck site. 9ins. Thank you to Steve Santini for additional research on this piece. Date: 1910s

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite Spode R4331 OSNC (Oceanic Steam Navigation Company) cobalt blue and gilt dessert plate, measuring 9 inches in diameter, is arguably one of the most significant White Star Line and RMS Titanic memorabilia in private hands today. Known in some circles as 'The Millionaires Service,' this rare porcelain piece was used exclusively on board the Titanic and its sister ship, Olympic. While a few cups and saucers from this pattern have surfaced, this dessert plate is even more elusive, featuring the distinctive gilt OSNC initials at its center. It is believed that this is the only known OSNC example outside of the Spode Museum and the Titanic wreck site. The Spode factory produced this pattern, R4331, for the White Star Line between 1910 and 1912. The luxurious design, featuring the OSNC monogram and intricate gilt detailing, was reserved for the most elite passengers on these magnificent ships. We are grateful to Steve Santini for his invaluable research on this unique piece. This stunning dessert plate is a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the White Star Line's catering services during the golden age of ocean liners. A true treasure for collectors and history enthusiasts alike.
