Landing of the British Troops at Salonika, (1919). Scene from the First World War, 1914-1919: Many of the troops evacuated from Gallipoli were transferred to Salonika [Thessaloniki in Greece], and with this transference a new phase of the war began. It marked the entry of the British troops into the Balkan theatre of war. Between 1915 and 1918, British troops were part of an Allied force fighting against the Bulgarians and their allies in the Balkans.
