Bull Sharks
Carcharhinus leucas. Also known as the Zambezi shark or Nicaragua shark. It is a requiem shark commonly found worldwide in warm, shallow waters along coasts and in rivers. The bull shark is known for its aggressive nature, predilection for warm shallow water, and presence in brackish and freshwater systems including estuaries and rivers. Bull sharks can thrive in both saltwater and freshwater and can travel far up rivers. Unlike the river sharks of the genus Glyphis, however, bull sharks are not true freshwater sharks, despite their ability to survive in freshwater habitats. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the awe-inspiring Bull Sharks (Carcharhinus leucas), also known as the Zambezi shark or Nicaragua shark. These formidable creatures are a type of requiem shark that can be found in warm, shallow waters along coasts and rivers worldwide. Renowned for their aggressive nature, these sharks have a preference for warm, shallow water and are often spotted in brackish and freshwater systems such as estuaries and rivers. What sets bull sharks apart is their remarkable ability to thrive in both saltwater and freshwater environments, enabling them to venture far up rivers. While they share this trait with river sharks like those from the Glyphis genus, it's important to note that bull sharks are not true freshwater sharks despite their adaptability to survive in such habitats. The photograph was taken within Fiji's Shark Reef Marine Reserve by Secret Sea Visions, capturing the raw power and beauty of these apex predators. The image serves as a reminder of the dangerous yet fascinating world beneath our oceans' surfaces. Displaying this print allows us to appreciate the resilience and adaptability of these incredible creatures while raising awareness about marine conservation efforts necessary for preserving their natural habitats.
