The Devon Belle, SR poster, 1947
Poster produced for Southern Railway (SR) to promote rail services between the West of England and Waterloo Station, London. The poster shows The Devon Belle, an all-Pullman locomotive with an observation carriage travelling at speed through a light-coloured, nearly monotonal landscape. The service ran on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays and called at Sidmouth Junction, Exeter Central, Ilfracombe and Plymouth Friary. Artwork by Marc Fernand Severin, who was born in Brussels and lived in England from 1932 to 1940 and from 1945 to 1949, working first as Art Director at an advertising agency and then as a free-lance artist, advertising designer and book illustrator.
